The one thing I forgot to mention in the Windows98 demise is a better alternative. You can always install either a Unix or Linux operating system. Most of the current Linux builds include installers and configuration managers. You can even get free versions of OpenOffice to run on it.
So, for about $50 (or less), you can get "everything" including a great browser, Free Office suite, and no future hassles. And this will even run on your old machine that Microsoft will no longer support.
